About the Artist
Sangeeta Babani was raised in Spain and settled in Mumbai, India after her marriage. Studying Arts in Spain a country rich in art and culture and the immense cultural diversity of India are hence naturally ingrained in her and have influenced her immensely. I was greatly influenced by two wonderful Spanish Artists, Goya and Velazquez. I found their figurative work impactful. For my works, however, I draw inspiration from people with emotions that communicate a sense of tranquility and privacy, moods which value above everything else.
Themes are sometimes traditional influenced by her Indian living and often western which is inspired by her ‘Spanish’ upbringing.
“Expressing a language which is close to an Artist’s sensitivity is a very personal sentiment. It begins with his integration in living a worldly life and extracting himself from it”, Sangeeta Babani
As an Artist, I am seduced by a white canvas that allows me to transform it with the Aura of Color and a variety of elements and scribbles of paint and Lines – each line made of many Moments which together encompass a Myriad of Feelings and Emotions depicting relationships that I wish to explore. Joy,Ecstasy, Envy, Contentment…some strong, some diluted, some welcome, others not so welcome, feelings overwhelm us daily –at least they do to me.
Each Painting is subconsciously a motivated image provoking a beginning of a feeling, an emotion, a thought at that time, its spontaneous and unplanned .” if you know exactly what your going to do, what is the point of doing it”? My inner Feelings help me to inspire and create. Life comes out of our mind – thoughts mould the world in a direct form through actions and feelings that accumulate and combine with each other and form what surrounds us, colors and bold brush strokes help me breathe, and have become a language for me!
Most of My work involves creation of Paintings that are essentially subtle confessions, that evoke feelings of love, pain , fear ,ecstasy. They perform the role of a conveyor of personal feelings through colors.
Every piece of work is perceived as a kind of relationship between the Artist and the viewer.
She loves expressing her creativity on cars too and her work on metal is as reflective of her influences as that on canvas.
She has held numerous exhibitions in India and abroad.
